Oddschecker, the UK’s leading betting comparison service and FairPlay Sports Media brand, has announced its ‘oddschecker endorsed’ service, which will see the best sportsbooks recognised in various categories, including ‘Most Popular Sportsbook’ and ‘Best Bet Builder’.

With over 55 million sessions per year in the UK alone, 100 million data updates per week, and with over 120 million prices live at any time, oddschecker are uniquely positioned to provide insight and authority within the market, which has now been formalised as this new service.

Oddschecker’s endorsements will utilise its site traffic and betting activity metrics, alongside user opinion from their large, hyper-engaged betting audience to arrive at the final list of winners, which will be announced in January 2025.

Launched specifically by oddschecker to objectively recognise the best-of-the-best in a dynamic, competitive marketplace, the campaign will be renewed annually with winners and partners given feedback on how they’ve performed against a variety of metrics relevant to each category.

Winners will be able to license the ‘oddschecker endorsed’ branding across their media assets for the coming twelve months. Similar branding partnerships already using the ‘oddschecker verified’ stamp, as leveraged by the likes of William Hill and Sky Bet, have proven to drive increased customer trust and engagement in crowded marketing environments, while also delivering brand claim integrity boosts through alignment with one of the UK’s most trusted betting brands.

Andrew Bramley, Commercial Director at FairPlay Sports Media, said: “Brand recognition and trust go a long way in sports betting, but with ‘oddschecker endorsed’ we wanted to go beyond just perception and deliver an objective look at the best offerings in the market across several key competitive categories for bookmakers.

“We’re digging deep into the data to work out who is proving to be the leading sportsbooks across different sports and core metrics, from best racing product to best safer gambling tools. We’re excited to share our findings in the new year, with several big names and challenger brands set to be recognised and rewarded for giving quality betting experiences to UK bettors.”

Arizona Department of Gaming Cease-and-Desist: Bovada Online Gambling

The Arizona Department of Gaming (“ADG”) has taken action against an overseas gaming company in Curaçao that is allegedly operating illegal online gaming sites, Bovada.com and Bovada.lv (Bovada), accessible to Arizona residents. Following an investigation into the matter, the ADG sent a cease-and-desist letter to Harp Media B.V., which operates Bovada, on November 8, 2024.

The operation of Bovada in Arizona is alleged to be a felony criminal enterprise and Bovada has been directed to desist from any future illegal gambling operations or activities of any type in Arizona. Due to the unregulated and illegal online gaming offerings on Bovada, Harp Media B.V. is claimed to be in violation of Arizona gaming laws, including:

  1. Promotion of Gambling (Felony) — Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 13-3303.
  2. Illegal Control of an Enterprise (Felony) — Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 13-2312.
  3. Money Laundering (Felony) — Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 13-2317.

Harp Media B.V. has been directed to immediately cease all online (or other) gambling operations and activities in Arizona, and take the necessary steps to immediately prevent and exclude Arizona residents from gambling on their websites.

“We are actively monitoring the evolving landscape of online gaming and taking proactive steps like this helps us protect Arizona’s communities and economy from illegal activities,” said Jackie Johnson, Director of the ADG. “Our enforcement team is committed to preventing unauthorized operations from establishing a foothold here. Arizona will not be a safe haven for unlicensed or unlawful gaming, nor will we allow unlawful entities to compromise the integrity of gaming within our state.”

In light of these developments, the Arizona Department of Gaming urges residents to exercise caution with online gaming activities. Only legal, regulated operations provide important consumer protections not found in the illegal market, helping ensure a safer experience for participants. Certain online event wagering is legal in Arizona. A list of all licensed and regulated event wagering operators legally taking bets in Arizona can be found on the Department’s website at gaming.az.gov.

While sharing gifts with family and friends is a wonderful tradition during the holiday season, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) reminds parents and adults that all lottery products, including INSTANT tickets, are a form of gambling and are not suitable gifts for children and minors.

While lottery products make great gift ideas for a variety of special occasions, these products are for adults only. It’s vital that parents and adults understand the proven risks and impacts associated with underage gambling. If you decide to buy lottery gifts for friends and family, please ensure the recipients are at least 18 years of age and older.

There is extensive free information and various resources available dealing with youth and gambling:

The YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program (YGAP) is a free service funded by Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to raise awareness among youth of gambling risks, how to make informed decisions, and healthy, active lifestyles.

Also, OLG’s award winning PlaySmart.ca program can help parents understand the facts when it comes to games, and concepts like odds and randomness. There’s also a “Finding Help” section with links to the support resources above and more.

OLG has supported the Holiday Campaign from the National Council of Problem Gambling and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) for many years, which encourages lotteries in Canada, US, and around the world to promote the important message that lottery products are not suitable for children at any time.
