CORE Arena at the Plaza Hotel & Casino to host free rodeo events during NFR
Proud to continue the western legacy in downtown Las Vegas, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will again serve as a hotel sponsor of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and host numerous rodeo events, all free to attend, at its outdoor equestrian facility, the CORE Arena, Dec. 2-14. The imageDowntown Christmas Expo, a curated western wear shopping event also returns to the Plaza’s convention center, Dec. 5-14.
Rodeo events at the CORE Arena include:
- CRSNC Southwest Regional Super Ranch Sort – Dec. 2-4
- Patriot 3D pole bending and 4D barrel race – Dec. 5-7
- Hooey Junior Patriot – Dec. 8-14
- Rope for the Crown Breakaway – Dec. 6-8
- Junior Rope for the Crown Breakaway – Dec. 9-10
- Las Vegas Stars Tie-Down & Breakaway– Dec. 9-11
The CORE Arena offers covered and uncovered equine stalls, including the largest stalls in the city. Coupled with 24-hour onsite security, the Plaza makes it easy for rodeo participants and enthusiasts to “kiss their horses goodnight,” knowing their animals will be safe while they enjoy their evening just steps away playing on the casino floor or eating a delicious steak dinner at Oscar’s steakhouse.
Other rodeo related events include RopeSmart Rope For The World Dummy Roping a free event that will be held in the entry hall of the Plaza’s third floor convention space, Dec. 12-14. And each night inside the Plaza’s showroom, NFR enthusiasts can attend a free NFR watch party, sponsored by American Hat. The family-friendly watch party starts at 5:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) and will offer nightly prizes and giveaways as well as special guest appearances. The Plaza will also offer free shuttle service to and from the NFR’s evening events at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Downtown Christmas Expo takes over the Plaza’s third floor convention space from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Dec. 5-14. The carefully curated shopping event features a diverse array of apparel and accessory designers, artisans, jewelers, and Western couture. With dozens of Western industry vendors, including its top makers and trend setters, the expo showcases exclusive looks and products. The Downtown Christmas Expo is free to attend and offers parking validation for shoppers.
After the Wrangler NFR Rodeo concludes each evening, guests can enjoy beer, craft cocktails, and live country rock bands at The Sand Dollar Downtown. There is no cover for the shows. Guests must be 21 years or older.
With multiple rodeo events at the CORE Arena as well as free viewing parties, live entertainment, the Downtown Christmas Expo, and complimentary shuttle service, the Plaza is an unparalleled destination for NFR.

The Plaza Hotel & Casino Hosts Las Vegas Days Rodeo at CORE Arena, November 10 to 11
Rodeo to include historical exhibits, Whiskerino and Mutton Busting events
The Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas will again host the Las Vegas Days Rodeo at its outdoor equestrian center, the CORE Arena, on Friday and Saturday, November 10 to 11, starting at 6pm (gates open at 5pm). Sponsored in partnership with the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial, the event celebrates the history of Las Vegas with the rodeo as well as historical exhibits, a Whiskerino contest and Mutton Busting.
The Las Vegas Days rodeo will feature bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, breakaway and bareback riding with prize purses totaling $45,000. The rodeo events are fully sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. Admission is free but RSVP is recommended online.
Adjacent to the rodeo arena, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will have a ‘Then & Now’ display of photos of downtown Las Vegas along with western-themed exhibits in a tented educational pavilion open to the public.
A Whiskerino contest will also be held offering prizes in multiple categories including longest beard, longest mustache, best natural beard, worst beard and most unique. Participants are encouraged to dress in Western attire or pioneer costumes and must be present at the rodeo to win.
The Las Vegas Day Rodeo will also feature Mutton Busting for future cowboys and cowgirls. The sheep riding competition is open to children aged four to ten who weigh less than 60 pounds. The winner gets a commemorative buckle.
Overall, the mission of the Las Vegas Day Rodeo is to bring the community together to celebrate the spirit of Old Las Vegas including those who shaped the city’s history and those who are working to preserve the western lifestyle while looking towards our future.
