MGM Grand to host Moneymaker Tour guaranteeing over $1.3 million in prize pools

Twenty one years after Chris Moneymaker sparked the poker boom, The Moneymaker Tour is heading to Las Vegas, the tour announced today.

An agreement with MGM Grand Hotel & Casino will see the Tour’s first edition in the city that witnessed the original arrival of its founder to the poker scene. The Moneymaker Tour will join the summer poker action in Las Vegas from June 28 to July 6 at MGM Grand with a series guarantee of $1.3 million across six trophy events.

The feature event of the stop will be the $1,700 Main Event which boasts a $1 million guarantee and will run from July 3 – July 6. MGM Grand will host its third Summer Poker festival starting May 29 and feature 39 trophy events and over $3.7 million in total guarantees (including the Moneymaker Tour week).

“Las Vegas is the beating heart of the poker world. It’s where the game’s legends and stories, including Chris’, have been made,” said Tony Burns, Executive Manager. “To host an event in the same city that Chris won the 2003 Main Event in is a full circle moment. We are excited to partner with MGM Grand this Summer and look forward to being a part of their festival on June 28th thru July 6th. The Moneymaker Tour was created in 2023 by 2003 WSOP Champion and ACR Team Pro, Chris Moneymaker and Moneymaker Tour Executive Manager, Tony Burns.

The Tour was conceived as a way for Moneymaker to give poker players opportunities to have their own ordinary to extraordinary moments as he did. Since its inception, there have been seven events in locations such as Florida, Cincinnati, Houston and Ohio.

Steven Pique, MGM Grand’s Director of Poker, said, “Our 2024 Summer Poker Festival kicks off later this month and we look forward to hosting the Moneymaker Tour in our MGM Grand Poker room. The main event will culminate with a No Limit Hold ‘em $1 million guarantee, one of the highest we’ve offered our tournament players. Chris Moneymaker embodies the spirit of poker through his tireless efforts and positive contributions to this great game.”

Playtika’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) free-to-play app is doubling down on its partnership with professional poker player Samantha Abernathy. Returning as an ambassador, Abernathy’s partnership with the WSOP app is kicking off with her custom in-game avatar joining players in the app. This collaboration builds on a previous partnership between the WSOP app and Abernathy and brings her closer than ever to the global WSOP community.

Once a casual player on the WSOP app, Samantha Abernathy has gone all-in on her poker journey and now competes in high-stakes games. With her exclusive in-game avatar, fans can challenge her at the virtual tables, follow her through dedicated WSOP app content, and connect both online and in person.

Samantha Abernathy said: “The WSOP app is where it all began for me. I was playing on the app before I ever went pro, so teaming up with the WSOP team feels like a full-circle moment. To now see myself as an in-game avatar is both surreal and incredibly rewarding. It’s an honor to be able to connect with the WSOP community in a whole new way.”

Abernathy credits the WSOP app for introducing her to the game of poker. In her time as a professional player, she’s cashed in at 31 poker tournaments, a testament to how far she’s come from her days learning how to play poker.

Guy Ceder, General Manager of WSOP free-to-play app said: “We are delighted to have Samantha Abernathy onboard as an exclusive ambassador for WSOP. She is a reflection of what WSOP is – a poker game for all levels, appealing to both amateurs and professionals. Her involvement brings a new level of energy to our platform, reinforcing WSOP as the premier destination for poker enthusiasts worldwide.”

This announcement builds on WSOP’s history of partnering with top-tier poker players. Last year, the app partnered with Jason Alexander for a series of campaign and TV spots and Abernathy, herself, was previously one of seven players on WSOP’s “Thrill Team”, a collection of some of poker’s biggest names and most exciting up-and-comers.

EDGE Boost Named Preferred Payment Method for World Series of Poker Event Series

EDGE Boost by EDGE Markets, a financial platform for smart bettors and gamblers, has partnered with World Series of Poker, the premier series of worldwide poker tournaments. The EDGE Boost debit card is now the preferred payment method for WSOP, offering ease of payment, safety, and several exclusive on-site perks for tournament players.

In past tournaments, WSOP players were limited to $10,000 per transaction and had to complete a lengthy approval process, often resulting in frequent cash deposits. Now, those using the EDGE Boost card through PayPal checkout can bypass traditional credit card verification. They can also make entries up to $250,000, which eliminates the need to carry large sums of cash at the event and increases security measures.

“Poker players competing at WSOP events typically face many roadblocks funding their entry at the casino and managing any payout. In the past, players had to bring multiple checks from different accounts which complicated the deposit process and led to security issues of players walking around with large cash rewards. EDGE Boost simplifies this entire process and makes it entirely digital. Now these players can focus on their game without worrying about these extra factors. This partnership lays the groundwork for the future of gaming,” said Seni Thomas, CEO and Founder of EDGE Markets.

This focus complements player safety and strengthens WSOP’s appeal as an attractive event for poker players globally.

“EDGE Boost is going to completely transform the WSOP experience. This partnership immediately enhances our brand and player experience through tangible benefits that make them feel safe and supported. Together, we are setting a new standard for how the rest of the gambling industry should operate. We also hope this improvement attracts more players to our events because of the frictionless financial process made possible by EDGE Boost, leading to a safer and easier-to-use system for all involved,” said Greg Chochon, Chief Operating Officer at WSOP.

“EDGE Boost gives players what we’ve needed for years – seamless access to our money, without hassle or judgment,” said Lexy Gavin-Mather, Professional Poker Player and Coach.

EDGE Boost is also sponsoring an exclusive lounge at the WSOP in Las Vegas through July 11. It offers EDGE Boost cardholders a private space with refreshments, Wi-Fi, and autograph sessions from poker champions like 17-time WSOP Bracelet Winner Phil Hellmuth and WSOP Main Event Champion Jamie Gold.

“EDGE Boost is more than a card; it’s a tech revolution for gaming. Instant access, ironclad security, and flawless control – all designed to let you play your game,” Hellmuth said.

“If you’re still traveling with cash, wiring money, or dealing with silly limits you’re way behind. EDGE Boost is a literal game changer! It’s a Visa debit card built for serious players who want control over their bankrolls. It saves me so much time and keeps me safe! No brainer to sign up ASAP,” Gold said.
