A new section of the STS office in Katowice is an industrial gem with a sporty character

Changing the usability of the warehouse into a modern office space, referring in style and character to the main areas of the company’s activity — this is the task STS set for Tétris. The works concerned the interior design and comprehensive modernisation, along with refreshing the façade of the entire STS headquarters in Katowice.

– Converting a warehouse into an office is a non-standard and exciting undertaking. From the executive side, there are many administrative procedures and processes to consider. An experienced team and proven subcontractors are key. STS had high expectations in terms of aesthetics, interior design and cost optimisation of the entire investment. We have prepared a concept changing the functional layout of the building. It was appreciated by the client, and the end result is very impressive – says Tomasz Spalik, Development Director at Tétris.

The Design x Build Tétris team was involved in the project. The designers used the industrial atmosphere of the warehouse in the interior. You can see steel structures, heavy barriers on the mezzanine, and a reinforced concrete ceiling in the conference room. These strong features are complemented by the subject with which STS is strongly associated – i.e. sport. On the walls, we can admire a mural with Diego Maradona and a mural with sketches of sports shoes. There are also a lot of green plants that increase the comfort of working there.

– We wanted it to be a place consistent with a sporty character, and at the same time modern, functional and comfortable. The Tétris company has successfully completed the project of our office in Warsaw in the past, which is why we decided to cooperate again. I am glad that once again, we have been offered a fresh, unconventional concept, which allowed us to achieve an effect that perfectly fits the style of our company and the nature of the facility. We have gained a modern workplace that effectively strengthens the image of STS as an attractive employer – explains Marcin Walczysko, member of the STS management board.

Thanks to the appropriate height of the room, the architects could propose an element that would increase the space and emphasise the industrial character of the building — the mezzanine. In this way, more workspace has been created, and the comfort of employees has been improved. As a result, an office with an area of 540m2 was created, with approximately 60 workstations, two conference rooms, a kitchen and two kitchenettes, a telephone booth and a bedroom for employees on duty.

– In transforming the warehouse into an office space, an essential element was also the change of the building’s facade. Although Tétris specialises primarily in interior design, we decided to entrust the company with this part of the investment. The result exceeded our expectations. They inspired the external appearance of the remaining buildings in the office complex to change according to the presented design. Thanks to this, our Katowice headquarters have a coherent, modern look – adds Marcin Walczysko from STS.

The works were carried out from July 2020 to March 2021. This period coincided with the pandemic and required the implementation of appropriate procedures related to the sanitary regime or precautionary measures. In addition, the STS office operated 24/7 without any problems. Despite many variables, the project was completed on time, and the building successfully passed a set of land-use change audits.

On the occasion of the four-year anniversary of the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL) on 1 July 2025, Sandro Kirchner, State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration, has taken over the chairmanship of the GGL Administrative Board, succeeding Reiner Moser, Head of Office in the Ministry of the Interior, for Digitalisation and Municipalities for Baden-Württemberg.

During Reiner Moser’s term as Chairman of the Board of Directors, the GGL further established itself as a reliable institution for the supervision and monitoring of the online gambling market.

“The online gambling market has developed rapidly in recent years. The GGL has met the resulting challenges with great commitment and can already demonstrate remarkable results both in combating illegal gambling and in regulating and supervising the legal market. The exchange between the states and the GGL is always trusting and results-oriented. I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Directors and all GGL employees for this constructive cooperation over the past year,” said Head of Department Moser.

State Secretary Kirchner takes over the chairmanship at a time when the GGL is pursuing ambitious goals, including stronger international networking, particularly to further curb the illegal gambling market.

“The consistent prosecution of illegal offerings and player protection are my highest priorities. The work of the GGL must continue to be significantly geared towards ensuring that the business model of illegal gambling is not profitable in Germany,” said Sandro Kirchner.

With regard to his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, he added: “I look forward to continuing the successful work of everyone involved over the past four years. We will certainly continue to face many challenges. However, I believe the GGL is well positioned to achieve this.”

The Board of Directors is the supervisory and steering body of the GGL. It consists of the heads of departments or state secretaries of the ministries responsible for gaming supervision in the 16 member states. The chair of the Board of Directors rotates annually on July 1st in alphabetical order of the member states.
