DraftKings and Kindbridge Behavioral Health Expand Program That Provides Treatment Resources for Individuals Experiencing Potential Indications of Problem Gaming
DraftKings Inc. announced an expanded relationship with Kindbridge Behavioral Health (Kindbridge) to provide access to therapy and treatment for problem gaming in every jurisdiction where DraftKings operates its online sportsbook and iGaming products. DraftKings and Kindbridge, a pioneering mental health service provider dedicated to supporting individuals facing challenges related to problem gaming, originally joined forces in September 2023 to launch a pilot program to deliver personalized support for sports bettors in Colorado.
“We appreciate the opportunity to deepen our collaboration with Kindbridge Behavioral Health and strengthen our commitment to providing important resources to those experiencing potential indications of problem gaming. We want everyone on our platform to engage in responsible play and we are committed to educating consumers on the multitude of resources offered. For those who recognize signs of problem gaming and decide to utilize our tools to self-exclude, they now have access to therapy and treatment free of cost through Kindbridge Behavioral Health,” said DraftKings Chief Compliance Officer Jennifer Aguiar.
After a successful launch of the program in Colorado last year, DraftKings and Kindbridge have established a system that effectively links self-excluded players with numerous support options, including receiving pertinent educational content, engaging in initial assessment calls, and scheduling initial counseling sessions.
“DraftKings’ integration of direct care into their platform, in collaboration with Kindbridge across 25 states, marks a significant step in enhancing player health. This effort underlines our commitment to combat problem gaming with personalized, accessible support. This collaboration sets a new industry benchmark for comprehensive care, ensuring swift and essential support is accessible to those in need,” said Daniel Umfleet, CEO of Kindbridge.
Beginning April 1, every customer in the 25 states where DraftKings operates its online sportsbook and iGaming products and in Ontario, will have access to comprehensive mental health assessments, care providers, and personalized care plans via Kindbridge when they self-exclude within the DraftKings platform. This expanded partnership further enhances DraftKings’ long-standing commitment to investing in and providing access to resources that support player well-being. The joint initiative aims to not only aid individuals facing challenges, but also provide valuable insights and data into the effectiveness of treatment resources for those who seek assistance via online gaming platforms.

MGM Resorts & BetMGM Strengthen Relationship with Kindbridge
MGM Resorts International and BetMGM announced new groundbreaking initiatives in collaboration with Kindbridge designed to support problem gambling research and mental health services. Kindbridge Research Institute and Kindbridge Behavioral Health are organizations that aim to better understand the problems that exist within at-risk communities, delivering evidence-based treatment for gambling disorder.
The partnerships and collaborations break down as follows:
MGM Resorts & Kindbridge Research Institute
As part of its commitment to responsible gaming research, MGM Resorts has donated $100,000 to Kindbridge Research Institute in support of a voluntary medication trial for veterans experiencing gambling addiction in Las Vegas. This first-of-its-kind treatment aims to reduce gambling urges and symptom severity among veterans with gambling disorder.
“This contribution will help explore and identify innovative treatment for a population our company cares deeply about. We have a longstanding commitment to supporting military members and their families year-round and are privileged to invest in research that benefits this important community.”
Research will be completed by treatment providers at the Las Vegas Veterans Affairs Residential Recovery and Renewal Center (LVR3) in partnership with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The study is part of Kindbridge Research Institute’s 50x4vets program, a multi-year research initiative aimed at increasing research on gambling disorder in veterans by fifty times in four years.
“This is such a promising intervention. We are so grateful for MGM Resorts’ support of this research to improve the lives of veterans and extend the work of the many great scientists, treatment providers, and donors of the 50x4vets program,” Nathan D. Smith, Executive Director of Kindbridge Research Institute, said.
BetMGM & Kindbridge Behavioral Health
BetMGM has announced it will expand its relationship with Kindbridge Behavioral Health to offer problem gambling referrals in Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ontario. This comes as BetMGM reaches its sixth month in the Kindbridge Colorado Pilot Program.
“We are proud to lead the way in providing individuals with this potentially life-changing support and are pleased with how the program has performed so far. This expanded investment underscores our dedication to ensuring those who need care can receive it. As access to sports betting and online gaming continues to grow, so should access to problem gambling treatment and care,” Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM, said.
This unprecedented collaboration between an online operator and a treatment provider offers direct access to comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment, and group support services. As a result, a number of Colorado residents who have opted to be banned from gambling through the state’s self-exclusion program are now actively receiving referrals for voluntary treatment from BetMGM.
“We welcome BetMGM’s decision to extend mental health services to players in distress across multiple jurisdictions. This initiative is a positive step toward supporting individuals facing challenges with gambling. It underscores the importance of accessible help and the role we all play in fostering safer gaming environments,” Daniel Umfleet, CEO of Kindbridge Behavioral Health, said.
This news comes as MGM Resorts and BetMGM join the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) in recognizing March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM). Throughout the month, new GameSense messaging will be displayed prominently throughout MGM Resorts properties nationwide, as well as in the BetMGM app. GameSense is an industry-leading responsible gaming program first developed and licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017 by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). The program focuses on positive, transparent, and proactive interactions with guests and customers about how to gamble responsibly.

BetMGM and Kindbridge Behavioral Health Pioneer Mental Health Access Program for Problem Gamblers in Colorado
BetMGM, a leading sports betting and iGaming operator, and Kindbridge Behavioral Health (Kindbridge), a pioneering mental health service provider dedicated to supporting individuals facing challenges related to problem gambling, announced a groundbreaking program in Colorado revolutionizing the way problem gamblers access essential mental health services. The first-of-its-kind partnership will empower self-excluded players with direct access to comprehensive mental health assessments and group support services.
The pilot program provides resources for players in need to schedule appointments immediately with specialized problem gambling outpatient treatment providers via telehealth services. As part of this partnership, gamblers who self-exclude from the BetMGM platform in Colorado will now be able to receive a complimentary mental health assessment and gain access to a range of peer support and educational groups designed to kickstart their recovery journey.
Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM, said: “It is important that the sports betting industry continues to invest and innovate in this field. Kindbridge is a leader in developing world-class mental health care that comprehends the unique challenges associated with gambling addiction. We are eager to champion the growth and expansion of connecting problem gamblers with the crucial services they need.”
Daniel Umfleet, Founder & CEO of Kindbridge Behavioral Health, said: “Relationships like this make it considerably easier for individuals seeking care to find swift access to the services they need. Together, Kindbridge and BetMGM are pushing the envelope in creating the right kind of connectivity between the gaming industry and healthcare services that will positively impact lives.”
The Colorado Division of Gaming, recognized for its progressive approach to gaming regulation, played a pivotal role in fostering this partnership via its new rule in October that mandates operators to have a robust risk scoring system for problem gambling detection and a rapid response communication strategy. BetMGM and Kindbridge united to go above and beyond these requirements marking a pivotal moment in the journey toward a safer and more supportive gambling environment.
