Copenhagen-based Nordisk Games is expanding its portfolio of successful game studios with a minority ownership share of Supermassive Games, the BAFTA-winning, independent game developer best known for the critically acclaimed games Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology. Nordisk will hold 30.7% ownership of Supermassive Games.

Founded in 2008, Supermassive Games is a privately held, independent developer creating a variety of games that now employs over 200 talented developers that share the studio’s love of high-end production values and cinematic excellence. Supermassive Games has received numerous awards over recent years, including a BAFTA for Until Dawn, and recently launched The Dark Pictures Anthology, a series of standalone cinematic horror games.

Nordisk Games is owned by entertainment company Nordisk Film, which is a part of Egmont, a leading Nordic media group. In recent years Nordisk Games has built a high growth portfolio of minority and majority-owned game studios that includes Avalanche Studios Group, Star Stable Entertainment, Raw Fury, and MercurySteam. “We are delighted to have Nordisk Games alongside Supermassive for what we are sure will be very exciting times ahead. From the moment Joe and I met with Martin (Walfisz) and Mikkel (Weider), we were convinced that Nordisk would be great partners for us, and we feel privileged to welcome Nordisk Games’ expertise to our Board. Our companies share a passion for delivering beautiful games with stories that emotionally engage, and we are very much looking forward to working closely with them and their colleagues at Nordisk Film and Egmont”, Pete Samuels, CEO Supermassive Games.

”What impressed us about the team at Supermassive – beyond their obvious talent and creativity – was their openness to collaboration and their vision for building the best possible narrative games,” said Mikkel Weider, Managing Director of Nordisk Games. “In our opinion, there are few studios better at creating rich, narrative-driven games, built around unique stories and IPs. It’s a great opportunity for us, and we can’t wait to work alongside Pete, Joe, and the whole Supermassive team as they develop more incredible games in their unique style.”

PG Soft hatches Rio-inspired Chicky Run

PG Soft, a world-class digital mobile games company, has hatched its Rio-inspired title Chicky Run.

Set on the streets of Rio de Janeiro with the Christ the Redeemer statue looming on the horizon, Chicky Run promises players a unique gaming experience. As the game loads, players place their bet for the chick to charge down the street to avoid being squashed by cars. Each time the chick successfully dodges a car it will be joined by another furry friend until the multiplier reaches its maximum. The size of the multiplier depends on the number of successful rounds in a row.

Before running through Rio, players must choose to begin on the left hand side or the right hand side, there is also the choice to use the Random button. This is repeated for each new chick dash. After avoiding a car there is also the option to press the collect button and cash out with your returns rather than run the risk of being hit.

Players can also enjoy Chicky Run with the Extra Coins Chance feature activated. Here any winning round has a chance of awarding between one and three coins worth half of the bet amount (before the increased 50% cost).

The graphic directly below the multiplier metre indicates the directions where no vehicles appeared over the previous 10 rounds.

PG Soft’s spokesperson commented: “Chicky Run is pure joy to play, and where better place to run for riches than the fabulous Rio de Janeiro. Our designers and product team have done a wonderful job and now we finally know why the chicken crossed the road!”
