The 2 nd Annual GPI European Poker Conference is coming to SiGMA 2017 this November 23 rd at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre. GPI’s European Poker Conference is the year’s defining opportunity for the European poker community to come together for collaborative brainstorming. Operators, media, organizers and players are all welcome to join in on and learn from discussions on current player, operator ecosystem trends, as well as the future outlook of the industry and more held between experts via moderated panels.

The 2017 GPI European Poker Conference will be highlighted by five different 45 minute long panels. Each panel will be centered around a different contingent of industry experts, with discussion focused on a diverse array topics currently most relevant to the poker ecosystem.

The goals are clear – opening conversation on what different pockets of the European poker world is doing right and wrong, synthesizing a clear outlook on the future of the game throughout the region, and finding solutions to work together to push towards evolution and growth. Operators, sponsors, casino executives, tournament directors, players and media will all be heard from. Malta’s National Lottery Goes Cashless with NOVOVISION

NOVOVISION is the solution of choice of National Lottery plc, the exclusive concessionaire of the national lottery of the Republic of Malta. The company operates a network of 240 licensed lottery shops, 170 of which are operated via a network of authorised distributors, while 70 are directly operated by the National Lottery of Malta. National Lottery offers a broad range of lottery products, sports betting, electronic gaming machines (EGMs) in the retail market. All products offered through the retail network are also offered online via three distinct ecommerce sites, offering casino, sports betting and lottery products.

The operator has implemented several modular NOVOVISION functionalities to support smooth business processes and maximum user convenience for the players. The NOVOVISION wallet serves as a unique single wallet solution for slots play and sports betting, and is supported by biometric fingerprint recognition to guarantee secure authentication for all wallet transactions.

NOVOVISION cash terminals have been deployed by the National Lottery of Malta with the aim to establish cashless payment transactions in the proprietary retail network. A total of 32 cash terminals have been installed in the shop network to date, half of which are the NCM 40 model and the other half the slim-line successor model NCM 70. This medium-capacity cash terminal provides reliable cash handling for mid-size venues with up to four possible denominations and 500 banknotes per cassette, as well as a 11” PCAP touch user interface. The robust cabinet guarantees best-in-class reliability and ease of use with excellent ergonomic positioning for all user interface units and front service access. A broad variety of options such as NFC reader, numeric keyboard, fingerprint scanner and full TITO capacities recommend this cash terminal for all operator requirements.

The rollout of the NOVOVISION cash terminals with the National Lottery of Malta started in July 2022, with 16 machines installed by the end of 2023, and was accelerated in 2024 with a further 16 terminals installed in March and the remaining 24 units pending delivery in the weeks to come. The terminals have been customised to perfectly fulfil the operator’s requirements and facilitate a number of processes, such as cashless top-up and withdrawals from the player’s NOVOVISION wallet, cash payout of the National Lottery’s EGM, lottery and sports betting tickets generated by third-party systems from a single terminal as well as the issuing of vouchers for non-dispensed cash.

MGA: Update to the Incident Reporting Requirements

The Malta Gaming Authority would like to inform its licensees of updates made to the Incident Report mechanism available through the Licensee Portal The information hereunder outlines relevant guidance and procedures for the submission of an Incident Report through the updated reporting instrument entitled the ‘Technical – Information Security Incident’.

As mandated by Articles 37(2)(c) and (d) of the Gaming Authorisations and Compliance Directive (Directive 3 of 2018), “Licensees shall notify the Authority forthwith, and in any case no later than three (3) working days after, the following:

(c) Any breach of the licensee’s information security that adversely affects the confidentiality of information relating to players;

(d) Any breach of the licensee’s information security that precludes players from accessing their accounts for a period exceeding twelve (12) hours.”

In this regard, Licensees are obliged to submit an Incident Report in order to notify the Authority of the circumstances relating to an information security breach that meet the above specified criteria. Additionally, Licensees are advised to remain mindful of any further obligations emanating from the General Data Protection Regulation (EU/2016/679) and any relevant legislation.

The Technical – Information Security Incident option will be accessible through the “New/Change” dropdown menu via the Portal. Upon selection, users will be directed to the applicable sections of the ‘Technical – Information Security Incident’ where all compulsory fields and any relevant documentation must be submitted to the Authority.

Upon submission, the Incident Report shall undergo review by the Authority. Any missing information that may be identified by the Authority, shall be requested accordingly from the Licensee. It is imperative that any pending clarifications are addressed in a timely manner.

If no further clarifications are deemed necessary by the Authority, the Incident Report will be closed off accordingly, and any relevant documentation will be securely filed for record-keeping purposes.

Any Incident Reports left in ‘Draft’ form (i.e. opened but not effectively submitted) for a period of ninety (90) days shall be automatically discarded.
