Ontario Makes RG Check Accreditation Essential for iGaming Operators

Published

on

The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) has hailed iGaming Ontario’s (iGO) move to embed RG Check Accreditation Program into the requirements for all igaming operators entering the Ontario marketplace. The state is launching its new online gambling market on April 4.

RGC states that the move shows the clear commitment of the Ontario government, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and iGO to ensure responsible gambling.

Shelley White, CEO of RGC, said:

“RG Check is a clear and tangible signal of the government’s commitment to making public protection and sustainable play a priority and a key part of creating a culture of responsible gambling here in Ontario. RG Check is a leading responsible gambling accreditation that is used by jurisdictions around the world. The RG Check symbol is a demonstration to all that the operator is committed to and has strong gambling safeguards in place.”

The RG Check program has already been implemented by land-based casinos in Ontario. It was developed by RGC in 2010 in consultation with policy makers, operators, players, and people with lived experience of gambling harm. It allows gambling venues and igaming sites to evaluate, monitor, and manage all aspects of their RG strategy and operations.

Tracy Parker, Director, Standards and Accreditation of RGC, said:

“The RG Check team is excited to make a contribution to a comprehensive RG framework with clear, evidence-based and impactful player protection measures that minimize potential harms associated with gambling. A consistent accreditation program for all operators will help ensure a common approach to monitoring and assessment and provide a fair and transparent process. The collaborative approach of RG Check will help support continuous improvement in Ontario.”

Martha Otton, Executive Director of iGaming Ontario, added:

“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with RGC on this initiative. The RG Check program is comprised of nine standards and 48 criteria that measure the scope and effectiveness of operators’ RG programming in areas such as site and product design, marketing communications and assisting players who may be experiencing harm from gambling. This allows Ontarians to play with confidence.”

As Ontario prepares for the launch of its new online gambling market, RGC looks forward to continuing its collaborative work with iGO and the government on the implementation of the RG Check igaming accreditation program and on implementing additional measures, including public education campaigns, to build a world-class responsible gambling framework in Ontario.

Prime Skill Games Inc. Official Response to AGCO Press Release

As CEO of Prime Skill Games Inc., I feel compelled to address recent comments made by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario regarding so-called unapproved gambling machines in convenience stores across the province.

Let me be perfectly clear

Our machines are not gambling devices. They are entirely skill-based, fully compliant with the law, and built on the fundamental idea that players are in control. The outcome of every session is determined solely by the player’s ability, not by random chance.

Prime Skill Games is proud to be the only true skill game operating in Ontario today.

We categorically reject any suggestion that our products fall under the definition of unregulated gambling. Such statements are inaccurate, misleading, and fail to recognize the critical distinction between games of skill and games of chance.

We stand firmly behind the legality of our machines and the integrity of our operations. We will demonstrate this through every available means, whether through legal documentation, expert analysis, or, if necessary, before the courts. We are prepared and unafraid to defend the truth.

To our players, partners, and business community, we want to reassure you that our mission has not changed. We are committed to offering a responsible, transparent, and innovative entertainment experience. We will not be intimidated by broad and baseless accusations, and we will continue to move forward with strength and clarity.

Sincerely

Matt Zamroźniak
