Brett Smiley, one of the most respected trade journalists in the US sports betting and iGaming industry, has joined Square in the Air as Vice President of US Operations.

Smiley, who started his career in business litigation, is reuniting with his Sports Handle co-founder and industry veteran Dan Zucker who, as a partner in Square in the Air US, has been leading its US expansion over the past 12 months.

Smiley will be overseeing strategy and delivery for the clients of Square in the Air in North America as well as driving business development for the firm, and managing its joint venture Chalk + Dog with Boston-based sports marketing agency CTP.

Brett Smiley, VP of US Operations at Square in the Air, said: “I’m excited to reunite with Dan and join a team of creative and respected PR professionals at the UK-based Square in the Air.  It’s still very early days in the legal US sports betting and iGaming industry. By leveraging the experience from the established and highly impactful global team, combined with the US team’s keen understanding of the US market, we are uniquely positioned to support our customer brands as they establish their footing or seek to gain market share in the US.”

Ben Cleminson, Director at Square in the Air, said: “This is a real coup for Square in the Air. I’ve known Brett for the past six or seven years and I couldn’t speak highly enough about him. He is a real expert when it comes to the sports betting and iGaming landscape, a fantastic writer and has a contact book as deep as they come. We are really excited to see what we can build together.”
