GameRefinery by Vungle has released its latest analysis of the key mobile games markets of the US, China and Japan.

GameRefinery’s analysts have hand-picked their top updates from August’s data for each country, including new releases, special events and game updates. Some highlights include:

  • Project Makeover introduced its own iteration of Battle Pass. The progression for the BP is earned by completing challenges that vary from visiting a friend’s avatar’s room to collecting specific colour board pieces.

  • PUBG Mobile launched a new game mode called Mission Ignite, transforming the original Erangel map into a more futuristic location with modern trains, air conveyor spots and robot dogs to help in battle. PUBG Mobile also updated how their season system works. Rather than having separate seasons, Cycles run alongside the season system as an “overlaying bigger event”, which naturally rewards players for participating across the Cycle.

  • Collection mechanics have become staples in many mobile game genres Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the latest game to join the ranks by adding Chocolate Frogs, collectable cards of famous characters from the Harry Potter world.

  • Garena Free Fire celebrated its 4th anniversary with a collaboration event with DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

  • Roblox collaborated with Nerf to hold the event Nerf Hub. Players could try Nerf Guns at a shooting range and collect special decorative rewards.

  • Child-rearing systems seem to be the new must-have of Chinese MMORPGs. Wuxia fantasy-themed Xin Xiao-ao Jiang-hu (新笑傲江湖) is the latest game to join the trend; a player who is married in-game can “adopt” two-child NPCs.
